The titles ‘The Beloved’ (2005/2010) and ‘Symphony in White No. 1 The White Girl’ (2005) are taken from Rosetti’s and Whistler’s paintings, respectively. The shapes formed by the pencil leads in the drawings are taken from the cross-section of the original frame around each of the paintings; the pencil leads are used to map the form of the architrave. This shape is then repeated to form the pattern. These drawings are about the frame, the bit between the artwork and the non-artwork, the line that is neither inside nor outside.
